Meeting People...

...often results in great surprise.

So I went to OCB on Wednesday and was very surprised to run into Lena! I was really happy to see a familiar (and younger) face there at OCB. Not that I don't know practically everyone there, but no one would really qualify as my peer in that group if it weren't for Lena being there. I was happy. :)

Also, I discovered that Kristin and I have a familiar new neighbor. Yeah, yesterday when I got home from work, I was putting some stuff in my trunk and who should pull out of her parking stall at Christopher Village but Kristen Vesper! I was really surprised to see her there. I seriously didn't know anyone there other than Kristin's swing dance friends (and the people in my ward who live there, too.) It was really fun to see Kristen. So yeah, we'll have to have a party. :)

I'm going to give it thumbs sideways to the left! No offense to the guy (because he is probably going to read this) but I don't want to give a definate thumbs up or downwards mainly because none of us know him. I'm sure he is a good guy but it would be kind of bad if we all said yes and then he came in here and started posting bad things. I know this is for Band Geeks and not just necessarily Weber State band geeks (current or former) but it's hard to say thumbs upwards when none of us know him (as far as I know).


Well, I've thought about it for a little bit longer (actually, I went and got a root beer float!!!) and I'm going to say, lets give him a try. I give a very, very slightly hesitant thumb up..... kind of like a thumb up - (minus).

thanks for the NWS info. If only they knew. So Tiffanie and I got a washer and a dryer on Tuesday as we watched the storm move in. I started hooking it up but got tired and stopped. We were going to watch the cool lightening and stuff. Dr. Keipp called and delayed us for a moment. While I was on the phone, Tiffanie informed me of a bit of water entering our door (for those that don't know, we live in a basement.). The little bit of water kept increasing exponentially. We also noticed water coming in our washroom window (which eventually busted out due to water). Where is this story going you ask?? In the end, there was 5-6 inches of dirty, leafy water covering every lower corner of our apartment. Luckily for us, the elders quorum quickly came and helped get our stuff to dry ground. Also to thank- Lena, Aaron and Kristen also came to our aid with two towels (they did do more than that though). Thanks guys!! So if anyone wishes to find us, we are at my parents until further notice. Thanks and have a grand day (hopefully dry).

Exciting Rainstorm

Uh, yeah. Severe weather would be a good description. I was out in it all! Kristin and I decided to take a drive last night and watch the storm as it rolled in. Wow! What a cool cloud display! It was sweet. Then as the storm gathered over us, we realized that this was going to be a real drencher. The raindrops were pounding relentlessly against the top of our car and virtually rendering the wipers useless.

We decided to go over to the institute and check on Kristin's sister who is an EFY counsellor. Normally she'd be fine, but she decided to ride a motorcycle to EFY this week and we didn't want her to try to ride in such a storm. When we got to Harrison, it was a river. There must have been between four and six inches of running water on the street. I was sending up plumes of water from both sides of my car driving down the street. Water was seriously coming down in sheets. It was great! It reminded me of rainstorms on my mission in Texas where it floods every time it rains. Although this storm was considerably slower than real desert thunderstorms, it was impressive nonetheless.

Now, for all you Windows XP/2003 modders out there...

I found a great website where you can download icon sets, skins, and even themes or visual styles. The site is CrystalXP.net. If you want to install a visual style, you will first need a UX Theme Multi-patcher to patch your uxtheme.dll file so that you can install non-Microsoft themes on Windows XP/2003. Email me if you would like a copy of the UX Theme Multi-patcher. (j s c h i l l [at] w i n t o o l s [dot] c o m) My theme currently looks like the included picture: kind of a subtle replacement of the original Windows XP Luna look with a more glassy, shiny look, complete with a Tux penguin as the Start button. :) Another good site to visit if you're modding Windows is Everaldo.com. Everaldo Coelho is the graphic artist who brought us the awesome crystal icon set used in many Linux distros. He makes some of the best-looking icons in the industry.

Also, for any of you wishing to try out Linux, I have good news for you (at least if you have a broadband connection and a nice CD burning suite.) Visit Slax to download a very nice copy of a very nice pocket operating system. There are various flavors of Slax to try out. Download the ISO and then burn it to a CD using the "Burn ISO Image" option on your CD burning software. Once you have the CD burned, you can simply boot the computer off the CD and you'll be off and running Linux in no time. The best part is that it is a live CD which means that it won't mess up your Windows installation already on your hard drive. It'll just run off the CD (or out of RAM if you use the copy2ram option when booting.) Special thanks to Tim Mikesell for pointing this great flavor of Linux out to me.

Just finished my final for CS 4780 Advance Windows Programming (C#). Going to work on my last homework assignment and my group project for a bit. Jinglesthula: The Game is coming along nicely. I'll soon have an update ready for Ben the Beta-tester. Diazinon has quite a kick. I read two books in 5 days, and I'll start on HP6 after my class ends on Wednesday.

The World Stops at My Door on Saturday at Noon

So, right now I'm blogging despite the stream of people coming through my door. I get annoyed at the Parade of Procrastinators (as I call them) that wait until the last minute and then fill up the room so that we have to create a waiting list and everybody has to wait and I don't get to go home on time. GRRRR!!!

On another note, Welcome Home Lena! The Welcome Home Lena! party was fun, despite the not knowing of the rules for catchphrase and the shortly funny thumb movies. Greek chocolates were good as well as the chocolate pie. MMMMMMM!!!!!

Merry Christmas!

It is currently Christmas today where I work. Yesterday it was Halloween and tomorrow it could be Thanksgiving...who knows. :)
Major props to Cory for the bunny laughter. Even though I could not hear it, it still made me chuckle. It's a good thing, laughter is. I am currently at work and would rather be at home sleeping. My new puppy has volunteered his bark to be my new alarm clock every morning before my actual alarm goes off. This morning he wouldn't stop at that. Once he woke me up, he crawled all over me and covered my face with puppy kisses. Gross, I know, but he's so cute! So, back to work. I need to vent the importance of communication amongst co-workers. I work as an aide to an autistic child at a child-care facility. He has to have a specific schedule and well, it hasn't been followed this summer. The people in charge of the summer program are wonderful at suprising me every day with things that they are doing that my person cannot do. It screws up his schedule and wastes his time. Grrr. Like right now the kids are lining up to go to a golf camp. Thankfully someone is staying behind so I don't have to take my person to a hot golf course to stand around for an hour. So, who's excited to go back to school? (those of us that didn't take summer classes) I have been dreading it all summer, but have recently decided that it's time to go back. My keyboard is shaking and it feels like an earthquake...but I'm sure it's just the building. Ok, if you haven't noticed by now, I'm bored and have nothing important to write about. Marching Band 2005!!!!!!

Hey all!
It's been too long!!! But I have news about marching band 2005!!!!
We've ordered a ton of new music for the pep band folders including, but not limited to....
99 red balloons, Boogie Down, Back in Black, Wipeout, The Flintstones, Kung Fu Fighting,
Final Countdown, and Tear the Roof Off the Sucker!!!!!
Our show will not be finalized until band camp comes round. We will be mixing and matching music written by Daigo, and other pieces that have been ordered.
Olympic Spirit, America(from West Side Story), Somewhere(WST also, and more specifically for homecoming), Don't Rain on My Parade, Come Sail Away(Styx, the band, not the myth), and Jungle Boogie.
Band camp will begin on the 22nd, and we will be quite disrupted on Mon and Tu of that week due the Veterans of Foreign War Conference that members of last springs Wind Ensemble and the Ogden Concert Band will be performing at.
It is going to be an awesome season, and our first home game is Sept. 3rd,(two weeks after we start). No, we will not be performing at half-time, Roy HS marching band will be performing the first movement of their show, and playing with us in the stands.
More to come later.
Also, my wife and I have begun to breed again, and she is due in January. More, LATER!!!!

By the way, Longhorn looks interesting. But Project Looking Glass is already released and I'm sooooo installing it when I finally get a laptop. You can check out the "demo" version on a windows platform and see the nice panaramic workspace (and you thought multiple desktops in KDE was nifty) and get all convinced that you need to run Linux for reals. At least seeing that convinced me.

WBHR episode 2 has been recorded and I'll probably start editing it together soon. Hopefully it should be up by the weekend.

Creativity, motivation, and litarariness

Many thanks to the Jon for the list of information. I'll be using this at length and in depth at heighth and at times (using 4 demensions! way to go me!). This definitely sparks the creative juices that flow, flow, ever so slow, into greater speed and capability. Again, many thanks.

I pity all those that rushed out to buy up that book. I feel so horrible that so many gads of people so highly anticipated so many pages of such poorly written fantasy. My only suggestion is to follow it up with something that is well written, so that your journey into the literary world isn't stunted and your growth limited. Might I suggest:
Lord of the Rings (if you're reading Harry Potter and have never read this, FOR SHAME!)
Chronicles of Narnia (if you're reading Harry Potter, you obviously need a lower reading level)
Pridain Chronicles (Gurgy could beat up that weird dwarfy thing Harry has any day)
Anything by Orson Scott Card (he's even LDS)
The Shanara Series (some of the best fantasy out there)

Updates to the band photo album

Hey, hey, hey!

Kristin and I recently got a really nice scanner for scanning photos and so I have been putting it to good use. I currently have a huge project of scanning a lot of pictures from our wedding and stuff for putting into a digital photo album, but I have been able to finish up with quite a bit of new band photo album content!

The new content that I have posted is: Jon's Birthday Party, Ben's Birthday Party, more Spokane pictures and Louisiana pictures from our NCAA trip, and more marching band pics from '03. I still have to scan and upload more pictures from our Days of '47 Parade appearance, but I need to find them first. I also have to scan still many pictures from Taiwan. (I think I have about a hundred of my own left to scan.) I also have a bunch of analog-turned-digital pictures of Tim and Amy's wedding reception that I can post, but I want to really get their permission first.

Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know about the updates. ;) Check the Band Photo Album link to the left (<--).

Ok, so John Williams won his 1st Academy Award in 1972 for his adaptation of the music for Fiddler on the Roof but that was in the category of Best Original Song Score and/or Adaptation not Best Original Score..... and so, through my extensive research, the 1st Academy Award that he won for Best Original Score was for the movie Jaws in 1975. And the 1st Golden Globe he won was also for the movie Jaws in 1975.

Well, look forward to the first pcast-only unofficial internet radio station coming straight outta Weber State. Ben, we'll have to get together sometime and record the material. I already did test pilot episode zero today. Oranges from TMBG's clock radio provided the music.

Well, I am at work and have about five minutes to waste. I was suprised that I could get into this site, since I am working at a child-care center and most sites are blocked for various reasons. I have to add to Cory's comment about Batman. That movie was amazing! We decided last-minute to watch it to take our minds off of our having to put our dog down. (long, run-on sentence...my appologies) It helped a lot, and it was just fun to watch. Right now I am working as a special-ed aid to an autisitc child here. What an experience! He is currently occupied with a computer painting program and talking (and singing) to himself. When I started laughing at something online, he laughed along with...having no clue what was really going on. What a fun kid! Well, it is time to get him back to his lessons. Ciao! (sp?)

There is this cool extension called Firesomething that you can install into Firefox that will allow you to change the name of the browser to anything you like. It's great for fooling those Microsoft websites that specifically search for "Mozilla Firefox" in the browser title. The version on the web doesn't work with the current version of Firefox without some tweaking, but fear not. I have done the tweaking and have a version of Firesomething available. If you are the daring, get-your-hands-dirty hacker-type, you can download the Firesomething extension from the Extensionroom.

What's going down

Lotsa stuff going on.

First item of business, a hearty welcome to our newest musiciansbynatureblablabla.... blogger: Super-Corey "Bucket Head" Stevens

Institute chorale is off to a roaring start. Just about the funnest thing going on there this summer - the directors are hilarious.

The hike yesterday was a blast. Pictures of the first WFC hike are now up on my photoblog as well as pics from Cory's BBQ and my first foray into Photochop. More pics to be added soon, including those I'll take today and on the morrow.

Midterms coming up for those who aren't taking the summer off of school.

Later today all who are going to the Pageant will depart Strongbadia around 2PM.

Andrew is currently spending time in Texas where he's just helped his parents move and buy a house. He'll be returning mid-week and be looking for something to do, so if there's plans, let him know as well.

For those who didn't could make the hike to Waterfall Canyon last Thursday, how's about making the hike this Thursday? Say, about 6:00 P.M. in the evening? Meet in Strongbadia. We'll probably leave there around 6:15 and begin the hike around 6:30 from the 29th St. trailhead. Head for the rusty old water tanks (not the new ones). My bro-in-law wanted to go, and I'd maybe actually get around to finding a date this time.

Remember me? I'm the one who doesn't talk very much anymore, because I have lost my mind.
Well, I was sitting at my computer, realizing that I forgot about this blog thing, so I decided to check it out. I've missed a lot of stuff. Wow. So, I really don't know if you'll even be reading this, since I never have anything interesting to write, but I'll try my hardest. My summer has been quite interesting. I have 2 jobs, of which I started both this week. Since I haven't blogged in a long time, I have to share with you an amazing thing. I am a nut about weather. I love to watch tv shows about tornadoes and such. And just recently I was able to witness a funnel cloud above my hometown. What a shocker! I have a question for you all...did you see any snow this week? :) Utah's weather is getting wackier by the day. So, now that I have been reminded why I forgot about this, I will stop boring you. One more question before I stop though...was anyone else entertained by Anakin's slightly overdramatic "NOOO!!!" when he finds out what happened to Padme? My friends and I found it quite comical. It was nice to be here again. Have a great day!

I was getting sick of all this hot weather

I'm glad that winter is finally here.

Ok, so here's the low-down on this summer's tentatively planned socializing:

June 9 (Th)

Hike: Waterfall Canyon
Refreshment: Big Rock Ice Cream

Meet: Strongbadia [W7 parking lot @ WSU], 8 A.M. in the morning

Bring: water, trail mix, a few clams for the optional Eye Scream

This time we won't get lost and almost dead. The waterfall at the top of the hike is rumored to be loud enough during late spring/early summer that you have to shout to make yourself heard within 100 ft. of it. During the later summer it dies down to just a trickle and isn't as fun. So the sooner the better. After the hike we can grab some ice cream at Big Rock and relax.

Note: As with all hikes on this schedule, their actualization is weather-permitting. If there's a hurricane or snow or rain or some other junk like that we'll just party somewhere else on the same day/time.

Road Trip: Manti Pageant



Meet: Strongbadia, 2 P.M. in the afternoon

Bring: sleeping bag, blanket and/or stadium seat cushion or a coat (get's cold at the pageant after dark), a few bucks for gas and the meals, bug spray, lawn ornaments, tent, frisbee, kite, flashlight, musical instrument, dentures (as needed)

For those who enjoy driving to the middle of nowhere (Ephraim, UT) and watching an awesome play outdoors (don't forget the bug spray) with a dinner before and camping and pancake breakfast after, this is the trip. Our goal this year is to have pink flamingo/lawn gnome ornaments and tiki torches around our tent in the park. Dinner is served at 6:00 P.M. in the evening @ Manti Stake Center (no, not Steak Center) and breakfast is served right in the park the next morning. If you bring a tent, bring the $5 it will cost to have it occupy a spot in the park.

The Indian Trail starts at the Smokey-the-Bear sign in Ogden Canyon and ends at the top of 22nd street in Ogden. Along the way are views of a waterfall, some mountain or other in Nevada, and a lotta trees. After the hike-o-rama, we'll retire to Mulligan's for a round of mini-golf @ Mulligans North (1690 W 400 N) just for fun.

The bride-to-be has already made her way down to Vegas and the Groom-of-the-Year will soon be following to wed him with her. Friends of the bride and groom are making a trip down to wish them well. Along the way we'll be stopping to take the Red Cliffs hike just because it's awesome. I have a cousin who lives in the area that I'll see if he will let us crash at his place, perhaps in tents on the lawn or something. If anybody else has ideas for where to stay that's cheap, speak up. Should be a blast.

Note: Ok, so since no one else could go, I stayed here as well. Anyone wishing to wish Diego and Tiff well can go to their open house on July 9. And anyone who is interested can join us in Stewart Stadium at 9PM tonight (June 29) to watch Phantom Regiment do a run-through of their show. (No, Andrew I'm still going to my classes except for the last part of my second one. I'm sure I'll see WotW eventually, though. Sorry about not going.)

After the hike we just hafta go to Farr's for their Mt. Ogden cone. It is also opening day for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We'll have to see when tickets go on sale. I don't know if the opening day matinees will sell out early, so if you want me to buy you one, let me know. The new trailer's great. So's the old one. I'm betting the movie will be, too.

From the top of Ben Lomond you can pretty much see the ocean. Or at least all of Ogden valley. Meeting time changed on Ben's advice about getting past the rocky section before the sun gets too high in the sky and starts baking hikers from two sides.

Throwing Pot

Yesterday I threw my first ceramic pot ever. What fun. The only problem was the pottery wheel I was using had a speed of approximately 3 rpm. It turned out ok, though, for a first go at it.

News and Announcement. There will be rain most of this week, so a hike looks to be out of the question at least until Saturday. Also, it is hereby announced that The Honorable Sir Mssr. Mr. Dr. Cornelius Jensenson Ph.D. Esq. XIV, alius Ultimate Cory, a.k.a. Cory Jensen will be throwing a BBQ party-type fesitval at his backyard this Friday around 6 or 7 PM in the evening. Y'all are invited. BYONGP (Bring Your Own Nuclear Grade Plutonium)... uh, or maybe just BYOPLDTSWEE (Bring Your Own Pot Luck Dish To Share With Everyone Else). If I'm leaving anything out or getting any of this wrong Cory, just post here and let me know.

Incidentally, if Saturday is looking good for a hike shall we not say that we could discuss such a hike at said aforementioned party in question?

Re: Go Lynx

Jon, I totally know what you mean. I am familiar with Lynx because I am a Linux user. In fact, Linux is my operating system of choice (because it's so freakin' powerful, and stable as the day is long.) Lynx is an installation option on most distributions of Linux and I have used it on a number of occasions when I couldn't use a graphical browser. The fact that it runs no scripting makes it very secure and not a source of virus or malware woes.

I did notice that Workspot does not allow you to reconnect recursively to the site, but it is still a really cool demonstration. Think of how sweet it would be to teach Linux to a class without having to install it and waste valuable class time. Of course, it would have to be an intro class because anything more involved would have to cover Linux from the install all the way through package management.

So, I'm glad that there are some geek-friendly people out there because I'm a geek and I like friends. :)

Go Lynx

Fortunately, Jason, there are indeed fellow geeks out there who fully appreciate a good piece of technology. I, for instance, am currently blogging using a little browser called Lynx. I don't know if you've used it before but it is entirely text-based. Isn't that keen? Anyone who hasn't used it yet should try it out. It is blindingly fast since it only renders text. HTML tags are for the most part ignored. The em tag just colors the text. Pg Up and Pg Dn scroll up and down, right arrow follows the currently highlighted link, left arrow is similar to the back button. Pretty simple. A bit unergonomic at first glance, but it's great for using if you want to avoid ads, popups, spyware, etc. It doesn't run any javascript, so it's much safer that way. The default for cookies is to prompt for allowing each and every one, so you always know exactly what comes and goes via TCP/IP on you box. 5w33t, n0?

Another great use is for using it to visit fun sites like blogger during boring classes - it doesn't look like you're goofing off instead of listening to the lecture.

As for Workspot, I give it a 9/10. It would've been a full 10/10 geekpoints, but When I used Galeon on the Workspot demo and went to Workspot it refused the connection when I tried to do the recursive demo. :)

Well, I'll see ya'll at das fest. And by the by, would everybody be down with a hike next week like around sometime in the AM on a weekday-ish? I'm thinking waterfall canyon or so. Think it over. You don't have to answer right now.

You guys have GOT to check this out! If you're like most computer users, you either use MS Windows or MacOS. However, there is a system called Linux that is growing in popularity due to its nature of being free and the fact that it runs on just about anything (that includes a good number of cell phones.) However, I'm fairly certain that unless you are a certified geek, you probably have never knowingly used Linux. Well, now you can, for free! Go to Workspot and click the "One Click Demo, Free" button for a demo of a fully functional Linux desktop. It's soooo cool! The only thing you have to have is Java enabled on your browser. If you don't your browser should alert you. :) By the way, the distribution that is running on Workspot looks like Mandrake 9.0 or thereabouts.

The Saga Began...

And now the saga has ended. I say ditto on everything that Jon and Ben have written but I have to say my most favorite part was the Yoda/Sidious fight in the Senate hall...I mean the spinny round thing was pretty freakin awesome. I mean Yoda essentially throwing a spinning vortex at Sidous was really wicked!
I will admit, I cried in this movie a bit, not nearly as much as in LOTR III:ROTK (I cried for about the last 30 minutes of the movie) but the scene with the Jedi's dying and just the dire straits that Yoda and Ben were put into was extremely depressing! I give props to George on those scenes, although I do agree with Ben on the whole "jedi's really weren't paying attention to the fact that people were going to kill them....." But the scenes that really got me were with the younglings.
One thing though, Paul and I kept talking about how Anikins lightsaber never turned red, it stayed blue all the way till the end of the movie...Isn't the lightsaber partially controlled by the force emanating from the jedi that wields it? So shouldn't his blade have turned red soon after he went completly over to the dark side?
I nearly puked at very burned and dearmed/legged Annikin and had to be consoled by someone sitting next to me...hee hee.
Umm...I did enjoy the whole complete and total tie in with Dot Dot Dot Antilles, whose name just escaped me, was that wedges papa? Here is my one thing that didn't make sense in my limited Star Wars Nerd mind, did Annikin really kill Padme or was it because of her broken heart, I heard some people talking about it on the radio and it confused me...Star Wars Nerds, come to my aid!

To add my own commentations, here's my pal Putting

Jon, to counter your "fresh on third degree burns" comment, I'd just have to say, remember that Anakin won't survive with out his helmet. It was an intensive, necisary, immediate surgery they had to perform right then and there . . . at least that's the way I took it. The only scene that didn't work for me was the Anakin changing to the dark side bit. Ten minutes earlier, he had just turned Palpatine over Windu, he charges in demanding Jedi justice be dealt to the sith lord, then helps to very brutally kill Windu, but then says "What have I done." He is in no way wanting to go to the dark side and the almost, in not literal, next words out of his mouth are "I'll do whatever you ask of me." Now, where did this change occur? There was no middle ground, just I'm trying to be the best Jedi I can followed directly by I'm a sith lord now. I definitely thought that it was a lot better than I and II. The Padme/Anakin scenes weren't half as excrutiating as in II. I think that Portman was given a good set of lines (for once) and that she pulled them off. She was a realistic woman wanting to be a mother and was having concerns about her husband changing and not being able to provide the type of life to her children that she wanted to give them. Very realistic, very good job. Lucas still needs to take a script writing class, but that was ok. I absolutely loved all the tie-ins. AWESOME! Double +A for that one. Things I wanted to see:
Qui-Gon Jin as a ghost
General Grievous' true form (loved the four arms, by the way)
Degobah
I was gonna put more, but then I couldn't think of any more.

This is where the fun begins

I'll get the ball rolling then with the discussion of the much anticipated movie.

*your generic spoiler warning* (for those of you who haven't yet seen said aforementioned movie in question)

My opinion, then:
Better than I and II.

The only scene I didn't buy into all the way was the Mace vs. Sidious one, and that mostly because of Palpy's makeup job. Andrew, I think maybe the thing about hiding his true appearance may be right after all. Sidious was totally playing Anakin during that scene. The force lightning may not have been doing anything at all to him. Then again it might have been the cause. I expect there'll be much discussion of this scene on the various forums.

For how much there was to tie together I/II and IV/V/VI I think Lucas did a great job - just enough explanation to make the saga all fit together without turning III into a great big resolve-every-issue/question-any-SWfan-ever-had session. For being stylistically different, the now-completed set of prequels fit surprizingly well with the original trilogy.

The Immolation scene I didn't like especially the medical fixing-up-the-Darth-Vader part. Unrealistic that they would just slap new limbs and the black suit on nice fresh 3rd degree burns and then have Vader stand up and start walking (staggering) around 10 minutes later. Even for a Sith pain is not fun and healing takes time. And the whole thing about no anesthetic for such a medical proceedure! Tsk tsk. What would the Republic Medical Board say about such practices?

Other than those two issues, great show. Oh, wait. There was the thing about all the jedi dying without more of a fight. Don't they have the force, or something? I mean some of them just got pretty much shot in the back. They should've been able to sense SOMETHING coming - some kind of impending danger. Well, they couldn't drag out that part of the movie long enough to show a big heroic finish for each jedi, I guess. That part of the movie did flow well, though.

Ok, so THAT's all I didn't like about it. Everything else was way cool. I'll have to see it again to pay more attention to the scoring, Andrew. I am always to wrapped up in watching the show whenever I see a movie for the first time that I rarely pay attention to the score itself.

My favorite part: hmmm... I'll have to think about that for a while before giving a definite answer but the opening scene was definitely cool. I also really liked the part where Anakin discovers that Palpatine is a Sith. The dragon was cool, as was the Obi-Wan vs. Grevious fight scene. Really dug the Yoda/Chewbacca bit, too.

I, unfortunately, am not in line, yet, as Jon and Andrew both showed up there abouts an hour ago. I'm at work, getting the much needed Hours Of Payroll rEimbursment (HOPE, the old and usual kind, not very new!).
I am currently Concentrating Longly On my Nightly Eating (CLONE, and this IS the attack kind [OUCH! Right in the personal food processor]).
I am also awaiting the End of Work Obligatory Kiss (EWOK, the kind that come during a return [of Ben from work, not of the Jedi]) from my wife upon entry to our house. That'll be good!!!

Hey, it's that time of year

Yep! Time for the annual Manti Pageant. It will be happening June 16 - 18. In years past, we have had fun going down as a group to see it on the Friday and camping out in the park until Saturday morning. I know that Kristin and I are planning to go this year and it would be wonderous to have a bunch of y'all come down too! We'll leave on the 17th in the afternoon and try to stake out a camp site in the park by 5:00pm. I think they charge something like $5 for each tent in the park and it's really not a bad deal because you get breakfast in the morning provided by one of the local stakes. They also serve dinner at the Manti Stake Center (famous Sanpete County BBQ turkey) at 6:00pm. Like I say, in the past, it has been loads of fun. The pageant starts at 9:00 pm. Bring a coat and blanket because it gets a bit cool. Hope to see many of you there! :) I'll make another announcement about it at the Star Warsing party.

YES!!! Another double post from Ben!

Final number 3 out of 4 has been finished up. I wouldn't say that the stress has left at all because I got all the easy ones out of the way and the hard one is left. Of course, since it is for my major class, then I am a little more interested and devoted to the class, as well caring a lot more.

My wife is the best and bought National Treasure for me yesterday. Yay!

So far, I've been really lucky and have been able to spend most of my time at work in another, quieter, less crowded room. Yay! (again)

At last! I hold it in my hands after years of waiting! The final Star Wars™ score EVER!

Went to Wal-Mart© at midnight last night to be one of the first to get it. Sweet sweet sweet, I declare. I still need to hear it a few more times, but I LOVE it. Plus, it comes with an AWESOME DVD of music videos with music from the ENTIRE SAGA!!! Sweet indeed!

In further Star Wars™ Mania developments, I also decided on a lark to buy some Darth Vader™ Pop Tarts® last night and then everyone that went with me decided to stop off at 7-11™ and get Darth Vader™ Slurpee® cups filled with "Darth Dew™" flavored Slurpee®.

But alas, there is bad news...

Sony Classical© and Wal-Mart© decided to market the CD with an exclusive bonus track which you could download online. I went to Wal-Mart's© web page as instructed and entered my code only to find out that since I run a Mac™ I can't download the freaking thing!!! Arggghhhh. I hate hate hate Wal-Mart©!!!!!!!

I'm sure we've all seen the classic IIS or Apache 404, page not found errors. We may have even seen some creative custom jobbies too. But the one that I found tops anything I've ever seen. Finals Week: Reloaded

Another finals week has come to stay . . . at least for a week anyway. Of course, this finals week is a whole lot worse than any other I've ever had. You see, I actually have finals this week. Every other semester, my English classes only have papers due the week before finals week. I have 4 all together, one was on saturday. But the real kicker is that I have to be moving out of our apartment by Friday at 5. Talk about stressed out! POW! Right in the pocket calender!

Rootisms Page: Reloaded

Very literally, in fact. The IP address of the Rootisms page has changed again. The router that my server is connected to that serves the page had a hiccup today and needed to be rebooted. So, when it did, it came back with a different address. The new address is 67.177.61.39/Rootisms.htm. I appologize for the incovenience. It has been several months since that has happened and I wasn't expecting it to happen any time soon.

I actually had an experience when there was a police officer when one was needed. It was great. Yesterday morning, on Hwy 89, I was heading north at about 60 MPH, in the inside lane. I was in a little group of cars that was just happily tooling down the highway. So, all of a sudden, this car came screaming through us, bobbing and weaving through traffic. He was followed very closely by a UHP officer who let him just bob and weave for a little while before turning on his lights and ended the maniacal driving. I smiled happily as I drove casually past the crazy driver who was now stopped on the side of the road. :) Moral of the story: The state makes money off of bad drivers.

Jazz Monkeys Bite

Moms always tell you not to talk with your mouth full. Well, I found out today that that can not only be disgusting, but very painful as well. I bit my tongue so hard that it drew blood. Ouch! Its not fun to have a liquid on your tongue that originated from your tongue.
Go ahead and check out the monkey game that Andrew posted and check the Hall of Infamy. Guess who is #1? Why that would be me of course. At the moment, I'm about 3400 points above anybody else; wanted in 19 states, committing 71 crimes, and my particular specialty was vandalism.
Reno was fun, but it was one dirty little city. I spent most of the time there inside the hotel and was very happy to get back to my lovely wife. We actually didn't to half bad at the competition got the equivalant of 2+'s on all the judges score sheets. 84 was the lowest mark to get a 1 and we got 80, 79, & 77. Way to go us. I got complimented on my bass bone playing as well as wowing the front row of girls by the tremedously cool, tremendously low sounds coming out of my instrument. Hava even said she didn't mind them oggling, as long as they didn't get to touch... which they didn't.

I move back to Morgan in the middle of next week sometime! (Not sure when though) I have been bugging the Sears store in Ogden for some time and finally got an interview set up to be transfered back there, but when I showed up for my interview last week, the person who was supposed to be doing the interview never showed up! I have left several messages at the store and on the guys personal phone, but no reply. I am getting really worried at this point. It's too much to deal with right now. Moving out, finals, signing up for next year, getting a job, my folks moving to Texas, etc. I am terribly stressed and just wish all of that was said and done. Anyhow, it will be great to see everyone again once I move back. Cheers all!

Anyone else who I may have forgotten or overlooked you are also welcome and my apologies for being forgetful.

And yes, I will be dressed like unto an idiot for this event.

A tentative plan follows:

*Bring food/drinks/games/mobile furniture/yourself.
*Show up as early as possible. (There will doubtless be people waiting in line as soon as the mall opens on the 18th to line up, but those people are idiots. Anyone for 6ish?)
*We really should watch Episodes One and Two as close to just before the event as reasonable.


I'm going to see if the theatre will let me bring my inflatable couch or camp chairs to sit in during the wait. I'll have Epic Duels and probably Jedi Unleashed. There's nothing wrong with a bit of paper phone, Phase 10, UNO, or whatever else anyone wants to bring along.

Since there will be 20+ people there we should try to save a big enough spot in line that there will be room for the latecomers. If there are 3 people in line at 7pm it will be difficult to squeeze the 17+ other people in later when they show up at 9 or 10, especially without offending all the rest of the line by asking them to scooch on back to make room. Of course, we don't all have to alllll of us stand in line in one big group. You can show up whenevertheheck you want, but remember: the more the merrier.

Mission Accomplished

The invasion of Disneyland was a glowing success (though no radioactive material was spilled therby causing the glowing effect mentioned. It is only a figure of speech.)

Of note, the events described hereafter in this session will inform you as to the intimate details of the success of the invasion of said Disneyland park.

• Saw George Lucas in the store at the end of Star Tours.
• Was complemented on my hat by the Mad Hatter and Alice after affixing a small tiki umbrella on top of the hat and spoons coming down the sides of my head.
• Met up with my brother who was theretofore unaware of my presence in said park.
• MuppetVision 3D theatre suffered only minor damage.
  

Though this mission was a "glowing success," it was not without its shortcomings:

• Failed to achieve a Level 4 Space Ranger on the Buzz Lightyear attraction.
• Cut my finger on the wall of the queue for Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

As you can see, the successes of this mission vastly outweigh the shortcomings and no one was critically injured, thereby giving this mission a distinctly positive feel. The success of this mission is due mostly to the support of the Disneyland cast members and a fairly cooperative body of guests.

Accidental Deception

I must apologize for all those that saw me online and thought that I was somewhere where there was a computer and that I would respond to you. I was, unfortunately, not. I had left messenger active whilst I went to the Jazz Band concert and didn't get back on my computer to turn it off later that evening. I finally signed out at about 2:15 this afternoon and got to X out of 5 different (on-sided) conversations that people had with me (themselves). Again sorry!
Accidental Deception would totally be a good band name!

Lest any of you think that I have come across a less-than-legal copy of the Star Wars soundtrack, let me put your minds at ease. I listened to it on the ScoreStation, where they have been featuring it for the last couple of days. Don't worry, I haven't gone and downloaded some pirated copy of it or anything. I just heard it on the internet and it is really cool! I will be buying this soundtrack when it comes out and I will very much enjoy it.

As we knew it would. Someone put the soundtrack up. I think I'll wait til the 3rd, actually. But I haven't watched the 2nd full length trailer yet (I heard there was a second full length trailer, but maybe I was misinformed.) and I don't even know if I'll be actually watching the DVD that packs with the CD until after I see the movie. I'm trying to go spoiler free on this the last chance flick. We'll see. I already know more than I wanted to. But what can you do when you work in an office with four other SW geeks and have a SW geek uncle?

For anyone who didn't make it to the Percussion Ensemble concert last night, you missed out. Absolutely hilarifunny. Taiko was pretty sweet, too.

Dang it Ben, I just don't know. I think I'm going to have to try again and see. I feel like I'm standing blindfolded on a barrel in the water.

Jason, as you said it is a must buy when it is released on May 3 (otherwise, it would be stealing and that ain't kosher), plus, there is an awesome 70 minute DVD containing music videos of William's music from the whole Star Wars saga! Everyone, you now know what your mission on May 3 is. DON'T FORGET!

John Williams...

...does it again!

The Revenge of the Sith soundtrack is soooo cool!! I love the music. I think my favorite track is the End Titles track because it blends very nicely into the music from A New Hope. Overall though, the entire album is just amazing Star Wars music that only John Williams can produce. A must buy when it comes to stores!

CD Must-buy of the day: Woody Herman - Fatha Herman and his Thundering Herd. Oh, you just have to love Al Vizzutti's performance on Firedance! He does double-octave double-tonguing like it's child's play. And speaking of Al Vizzutti, another must-have CD is High Class Brass by him and trumpet virtuoso Jeff Tyzik. I saw these guys in concert in the Tabernacle in 1995 and it was the sweetest brass concert I have ever seen. The feature chart is this classical/jazz chart called High Class Brass Suite. It's very suite indeed.

Hello everyone!
Well, it turns out that this is an email-friendly mission. So I thought a Quarterly or thereabouts Post might be welcome, especially as we're coming to the end of the semester. I apologize that I lack the internet time to read the blog regularly, but I can't afford it and honestly it's probably best that way. If you remember my wildcat email (arthur wheatley /at/ mail /dot/ weber /dot/ edu) you can contact me. Don't worry if it takes me awhile to respond. It might be coming in the post.

It is unbelievable that so much time has already passed. "Time flies on wings of lightning" as the hymn says. But let me share a few things.

I am currently serving in Bloemfontein, South Africa, capital of the province of Free State. Free State Province was at one time the independent Orange Free State, and the Anglo/Boer war was fought over this land. So you can probably guess that there are lots of Afrikaans people here. Yes, the white people 'prat afrikaans' and the black people speak primarily Sesotho. But everyone speaks English. This really is an English-speaking mission. And the Afrikaans accent is virtually impossible to imitate. Ach, Shame.

This Area is a wonderful area; we teach a great deal; the new program ("Preach My Gospel") is Powerful. This area is so good because of the members here. They have the fire of Missionary Work and eagerly share the Gospel with their friends and relatives and so on. Bloemfontein is such a fine place really because of the families here. Families are the very best for the Gospel -- even as the Gospel is very best for the Families.

Cultural notes: Well, I'll wait until some of my photos develop and then we'll see.

I would be remiss not to leave a thought of some kind, so consider with me a moment.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, atoned for our sins, that through Him we might be clean and return to the presence of our Father in Heaven. The promises to the faithful are very powerful: Eternal Life, Eternal Joy, Eternal Love, and Eternal Progression through which we may become like our Father in Heaven -- become Deities in our own right. But the promises in this life are also exciting: Peace, Happiness, Support through trials and grief, strength to follow the commandments, continuing growth and knowledge, and so on.
There is another promise of the Atonement. Not only does it justify us, or take away our sins and negative things; but it sanctifies us, or helps us become perfect and have positive attributes. It gives us Good Things. As it says in Moroni ch. 7, every good thing comes by the Atonement and redeems us from the Fall. So beautiful, inspiring things; excellence in all pursuits of life; joy and happiness; art, music, literature, and so on -- all these come through the Atonement and help us become perfect, and redeemed from our 'carnal man'.
This brings us to the 13th Article of Faith. "If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
As we 'lay hold of every good thing' in our lives, we will grow in wisdom and in Joy. As we seek and enjoy good things (I know, I'm preaching to the choir) we will be happy.
So I challenge each of you patient enough to read this: Seek out good things. Have Joy in your life.

That's my sermon. I am the least among missionaries, but sharing these things gives me Joy. I will extend a request again for letters and emails. I wish you all the best of semesters and summers. God be with you.
