Who in their right mind...

...would give a cell phone to a child; especially someone between the ages of three and eight? According to a CNN report, cell phone use in Great Britain is quite popular among children. What the crap are the parents thinking? Are they thinking? The report that I read had to do with the "health risks" posed by using cell phones and cautions that there is no need to expose kids to those risks early in their lives. Okay, when I read that, I though, "health risks?!" What about risks to the children's safety? You give a cell phone to a three-year-old, or a five-year-old and what happens when some freako pedophile comes up to that kid and asks for his or her phone number? Do you think kids that young are responsible enough to know not to give it to them? What about people not so evil in nature, but just as insidious? Say, telephone advertizers, for instance. Y'know, what happens when your cell-phone toting five-year-old gets a call from an advertizing agency? People are sick enough to target that age group and really soak them for all their parents are worth. This article was talking about the three to eight-year-old group. Personally, I don't think that a nine-year-old is mature enough to have their own cell phone. I mean, c'mon! Do nine-year-olds need to network with all their friends and call them at all hours of the day? Are they running business deals that need them always available? I sure hope not! Kids should be kids and have their toys and their bikes and play with their friends.

Aloha!
