Checkings and peckings
Just checking in for my daily update of trying-to-take-over-the-website. I'm doing well. Carlos Boozer signed with the Jazz. The parents are coming home tomorrow and Jon and the gang are returning on Sunday. I know Jon'll enjoy the taking off part of the plain trip. Happiness weekend is here! Ok, so now I'm sitting here having difficulty trying to adjust to the different layout of the German keyboard. The Z and the Y keys are switched around.
Ben - two things. The first is that things are complicated. The second is that this Net Cafe doesn't allow me to plug in my USB drive so I can upload the picture of the Keck store we found here. So far I've taken over 1700 pictures here on the trip.
I really wish I had time and money to blog all about the trip, but since both are in short supply, I'll just say that this band trip has been the absolute best trip I've ever been on. Well worth every cent. There's nothing like hanging out with friends, and being in another country is quite awesome too.
So.... more later. A lot more, I mean. And I've decided to definitely make a CD for this trip as well. There's no two ways about it.

Hahahaha! Ben, you will not overtake the entire blog! I have come to challenge you! I can write in here as much as you do! (For some reason, I just haven't.) You can have Benhiem and I'll have Schillville, but the band geeks are a battleground (just like Florida is currently.) I can attempt to write something in here every day. I feel it incumbent upon me to bid farewell to all those travelling to Europe with the Ogden Concert Band. I was going to join you, but funds came up short and a few things came to pass in my life, so I was not able to go. Play well. Enjoy yourselves. It has been many whiles
Okay, good filming last Saturday. I appreciate everyone who was able to make it. Kristen was invaluable as a background riot voice in a pivotal scene.
They Might Be Giants newest album, The Spine was released on Tuesday the 12th. I was hoping it would be longer, but it is still good just the same.

I can't stand John Kerry and/or (especially) Michale Moore. What a duo of unpatriotic dufuses. I have a hard time swallowing anything Kerry has to say, and with good reason (just look at his congressional record, or his "I did vote for the $87 billion, before I voted against it" quote) and an even harder time believeing that fat stupid white man, Michael Moore. Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. It's been bothering me for some time now.
Now that I have offended many a person, I think I'll be going. Not much else to say anyway.

99 Down
1 to go.
That's right, kids! I have 99 sent emails in my work email account. My goal was to hit 100 by the end of the summer, and it looks like I'll more than achieve that. Now I just need to be as good at setting an achieving worthwhile goals.
Today I was oh so pleased to find out that my CF card from my camera can be read by the CF card reader on my PVP. Woo who! This should prove fun. Now the only thing that remains is to pick up a 220 to 110 transformer so I don't run out of juice whilst on the trip.
Now it is really tired. I mean late. I got 3 hours of sleep last night. You are maybe perhaps wondering why I am up this early/late again the next day. That is a valid wondering and also is one which I myself am having currently. So, now - I go to neverland for a while.

Proud to be an American
Well, how was everyone's Fourth-Fifth of July? Mine was grand! I got to go and wake up the city of Layton with a rousing "To the Colors" for the flag raising ceremony on Monday. It was pretty cool. Several retired military people came to me afterwards and said how much they appreciated having the bugle call when the flag was being raised. After the flag raising, we listened to a series of patriotic songs performed by elementary school students. My neighbor across the street has been in charge of the Fourth of July flag raising ceremony and she has always put together a very nice patriotic program. After the music, we listened to Rep. Marty Stevenson speak about what it means to be patriotic and what we need to do to maintain our freedoms. What really stood out to me and that I remember having a strong opinion about was the fact that we have to keep an eye on our elected leaders and not stand idly by when things need changing. We need to become involved in the political process. I don't particularly like politics (especially this blasted partisan noise we hear all the time), but I do think that if we are to maintain our freedoms that we need to become aware of the issues and do something when freedoms are not maintained. Hey, if that takes getting arrested to get something changed, then so be it. That's the great thing about this country. If something is not the way we want it, we can change it. This country was founded on the premise of social disobedience. I am not saying that just because you want the speed limits changed to 200 mph on the freeways, that you should drive like that and get arrested for it. Some things are in place for safety reasons and they are common sense. However, there might be other things that the government has in place that may very well impose on your rights and if you want it changed, do something about it.
Something else that is important for us to do is to pray for our elected leaders so that they may have the proper guidance in making the decisions that will lead to freedom and peace. I'm not trying to impose any religious beliefs on anyone in saying this, but we really need to support them and assist them in whatever way we can. We don't have to politically agree with them, but they are our leaders and they need our help. The problem with the political scene today is all the backstabbing and airing of dirty laundry. That, for me, at least, does not win my vote. I don't want to know how much dirt a candidate can muster about another candidate. I want to know what kind of leader he or she will be. Backstabbing is not leadership. Anyhow, I think I have rambled on long enough. In this time of patriotism, be sure to think of your own role as citizens to maintain freedom. We live in a great nation. It's not perfect, but I challenge you to find a better land anywhere in the world. Find another land as rich with opportunities as this great land of the United States of America.

Happy 3rd of July, one and everyone. Today we celebrate... um... tomorrow. Well, close enough. No! We're celebrating our Independence. If anybody cares, I think one of the best ways to celebrate the 4th is to take a look at countries that don't or haven't had freedom like we enjoy here. Also, to maybe look at Arlington (or at least pictures of it) and then appreciate what we have and what it cost(s). So... give it up for those who gave it up.
This represents both Cherry Days (my city's Founders' Day/Independence Day celebration) and what I had for lunch yesterday.
By the by, for the film today, I'd suggest 4x Mad World. That would be cool, I think.

How right you are Jarrett. I was, in fact, noticing the same thing and was going to mention it in a post. However, since you have already done so, I'll refrain.

Here are the pictures from the hike up Waterfall Canyon.
Next time, if we have more people we might not get more lost. But the fun factor can only increase as the headcount does likewise. The next one is tentatively Timpanogos, followed by the big trek up the steep, steep sides of Ben Lomond in August. And I guess I won't be going to DCI in Denver after all, so the saturday after OCB returns could work out after all for the big day.

Filming... just the watching kind
There is an onslot of movie-age at my house this Saturday (3)starting at 3 o'clock, when Jarrett mistakenly told everyone we were filming. If any of you that read this want to come on over for movies, bring you own good self and we'll make a party of it. Also, appropriate phone calls will be issued forth this evening to invited participatees.
